What type of cards are designed for laptop expansion, such as a NIC or a card reader?

The correct answer is PCMCIA Card, which stands for Personal Computer Memory Card International Association. PCMCIA cards are specifically designed for the purpose of providing expansion capabilities to laptops and other portable computing devices. These cards can include various functionalities such as network interface cards (NICs), storage card readers, and other peripheral connections. The design of PCMCIA cards is tailored to the compact and lightweight requirements of laptops, allowing users to easily add functionalities without the need for internal modifications. This is particularly useful in portable systems where space and power consumption are critical considerations. In contrast, PCI cards are typically used in desktop computers and are not suitable for laptops due to their size and installation requirements. AGP cards are a type of PCI card dedicated to graphics processing and are also primarily used in desktop systems. ISA cards have become largely obsolete and were mostly used in older computer systems, making them unsuitable for modern laptop expansion needs.
